RE: How to stop rocking

Yep, you get 6 stabilizing arms (use 4 in the front and 2 for the back) for $299 (with free shipping from RV Wholesalers)................
Bottom line -- they work as advertised.
Ken
Excellent thanks....unfortunately RV Wholesalers parts department is out of commission for a while hopefully the price will be the same when they're back up and running.

RE: How to stop rocking

With all due respect, save your money on all those other things and get you a set of JTs Strong Arms. Some say they are expensive, but for me (and others here) they were well worth the $299. My 5er had a lot of wiggle, but now it's rock solid.
I got mine at rvwholesalers.com Took me about 2 hours to install.
Do a search for JTs and you will see all the happy campers that use them.
Mark
I see the picture of the 5er on the JT website has the stabilizers on both the front telescopic jacks and rear scissor jacks is this what your set-up is for $299 ???

RE: The BEST bug remover you'll ever use!

I use Bounce sheets, from our drier. Even used sheets work well. Just spray down the unit and wipe over with bounce. takes bugs straight off
Fellow 5er just told me about this method last week. He uses Bounce sheets and a bucket of water with dish detergent. He said it works amazingly well. I haven't tried it yet but will be at next opportunity.

Maiden Voyage

Well the time has finally arrived. My wife and I are going out on our 1st trip together in our 1st 5er. We think we have everything we need to go. Been waiting for this since it arrived in our driveway back in January. We are both psyched its like waiting for Christmas morning. I picked out a campground only 1 1/2 hours away with a large easy to get into site. All those hours of practice driving and backing up are now over hopefully it won't be a complete disaster. Got my cigars, beer, scotch, fishing pole and tackle box, oh ya I'm ready !!!!

RE: Slow cooker pork chops

Quint Da Man, I finally got around to trying this recipe. It turned out pretty good. I only had cream of mushroom & garlic soup, so mine turned out a little different, but it was very tasty.
I think if I make this again, I might add some sauteed mushrooms.
Thanks for sharing!
PS Today I am going to try Scali71 recipe for French Fried Crock Pot Chicken
Glad you liked it...Thats the beauty of it you can change/add anything you like and it usually works out. Does it qualify for your recipe blog ??? ;)

RE: GFI Electrical problem

You might want to check your wiring diagram. At some point, typically at the power distribution or circuit breaker box, the common is tied to ground.

RE: Ready to buy, am I missing something on bargining ???

The harder a customer tries to negotiate with us, the less we move. Someone mentioned a "pain in the neck" fee and it is true. If you ask for a dealers best price, then expect them to give it to you and if it is not good enough, keep shopping.
Couldn't disagree more. Unless of course the dealers "best price" changes 4 or 5 times during a negotiation. The dealer never ever gives you the lowest bottom line price right up front, even though you've asked for it. My wife and I have become an excellent negotiating team over the years like others have mentioned. We spend hours at a dealer ship negotiating price. We're not rude or overbearing, we're polite but firm. In every single case with no exceptions there comes a time in the negotiation when the dealer comes back and says this is it this is our bottom line price, yet they still manage to find another "bottom line" price one or two more times. If its not within our budget and they let us leave the dealership then we've both played out our hands and its over. A dealership will never let you leave without a sale if there is more bargining room on the price period, UNLESS its a popular item and demand outweighs supply.

RE: Ready to buy, am I missing something on bargining ???

The deal you get depends on the manufacturer of the unit your buying and the present demand for that particular model. Your going to get more off the MSRP from a Forest River product than say a Carriage Product. In my area Forest River, Montana, Jayco ect tend to have many more dealerships in a 50 mile radius than Carriage and some of the other top of the line manufacturers. Supply and demand. If its a popular model from any manufacturer then obviously your bargining power is diminished. If you don't buy it the next person will. Also like has been said you'll get a better price if you finance than paying with cash. The dealer gets incentives from the financial institution that can be applied to the bottom line.
Make sure your prepared. Do your research, know what the average MSRP is of the model your interested in. Know what your "walk away" monthly payment limit is. After all of your bargining if the dealer lets you walk away and you don't hear back from them then they gave you their best price. The dealer will never leave anything on the table. Also if you do finance you can bargin on the rate don't take the 1st rate they through at you.

RE: Slow cooker pork chops

Sounds good but why bother peeling the potatoes? That's where all the good for you stuff is plus it's a whole lot easier not to peel! We don't even peel for mashed potatoes any more.
I have used baby red potatoes in this as a variation without peeling love it that way too. I will give the no-peel technique a try :B, hell I may even leave all the dirt on them.....lol ;)

RE: How do you store your sewer hose ?

I'd throw the stinky slinky away and buy a sewer solution or macerator pump myself. when I did use a stinky slinky I slid a length of plastic rain gutter into my bumper to make it easy to slide in without catching on bolts, rivets, etc.
bumpy
LMAO....Stinky Slinky....Love it !!!!

Slow cooker pork chops

This is a meal my mom use to make stove top that I transfered to slow cooker/crock pot.
Increase quantities appropriately per people you want to feed. This is for 2 or 3 depending on appetite.
Prep time 15 minutes
Cook time 6 hours
4 center cut bone-in pork chops 3/4" thick
1 small bag peeled carrots
4 potatoes
3 med onions
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 can Campbells condenced golden mushroom soup
coarse salt
cracked peppercorn
Brown pork chops on both sides to a nice golden brown with salt and pepper.
Peel and chop potatoes into large chunks
Peel and chop onions into large chunks
Combine carrots, potatoes, onions, and garlic in slow cooker. Add salt and pepper and mix.
Lay pork chops on top of vegetables. Pour golden mushroom soup (still in condenced form) evenly over pork chops.
Cover and cook on high for 1 hour then low for 5 hours.
Comes out fall-off-the-bone good with a nice gravy

How do you store your sewer hose ?

Good weather is fast approaching (okay not fast enough)and my brand new 5th wheeler has been sitting in my driveway for a few months. Wife and I are starting to load it and learn it. I'm trying to figure out the best way to store the sewer hose. I noticed some trialers have a storage area in the rear bumper. My rear bumper has caps that come off but pop riviets in the bumper prevent me from sliding anything inside it. I am considering just drilling out the pop rivets, what have others done for storage ?

Trip planning advice

This is my 1st year pulling a fifth wheel and have a couple long trips in mind. How do people go about planning an appropriate route to take so you don't get in a bad situation for example roads to tight or underpass to low, avoiding tunnels, ect.

RE: How to keep cats from getting out ?

We have a couple of Bengals and they have discovered that pushing hard enough on a screen will push it out. They're pretty smart cats both know how to open cabinets and doors with french handles. One of them even takes a shower with me almost every morning. He loves it, gets drenched under the shower then proceeds to run around the house soaking everything sliding everywhere. So I'm going to have to secure the screen door better than the plastic latch. Ive got an idea of attaching what is essentially a swinging arm on the out side of the trailer that I can swing in place partially across the door. I'll place it so you can access it through the door from the inside as well. I just need warm weather so I can work.try some of thses ideas.
